The goal of the Life during the Pandemic project was to gather data on the evolution of pandemic-related behaviours among Czech adults during the COVID-19 pandemic (especially number of contacts, contacts with infected individuals, testing, compliance with preventive measures, social activities, workplace attendance, disease symptoms). In addition, changes in respondents' job activity, the economic situation of households, and mental health indicators were studied to evaluate the impacts of the pandemic on these aspects of life. Public attitudes to government measures, testing, and vaccination were surveyed. The basic set of sociodemographic variables collected in the first survey wave was gradually expanded, in the different waves, to include respondent and household sociodemographic characteristics such as retrospective assessment of the pre-pandemic situation. Ad-hoc modules on distance learning or remote working were also included. The public dataset consists primarily of the continuous epidemiologic and economic modules.

Individual
Panel survey
CAWI
Standardised electronic questionnaire
CAWI dotazování respondentů registrovaných v Českém národním panelu
Several measures were taken to maximise the between-wave retention rate:
* Notification e-mails were sent to respondents several days before wave launch (typically on Fridays before a Monday launch). Respondents were not only informed about the next wave's date but also thanked for participating and briefly informed about existing uses of the data.
* Before Waves 21 and 28, more extensive e-mails were sent to thank the respondents, announce the amount of participation rewards given thus far, and ask for continued collaboration.
* In most waves, one randomly selected respondent was awarded a tablet computer (in addition to their regular financial remuneration for Czech National Panel questionnaire completion).
* Average interview duration was kept between 15 and 20 minutes.
Post-stratification weighting was conducted using the quadratic programming R package (with a priori weight constraints). Weighted against the population distribution in terms of sex, age, education, municipality size, administrative region, economic status, cross-classification of age and education, cross-classification of age and sex. In Wave 2 and following, also weighted against the employment status distribution identified in Wave 1.
*For each wave dataset, value ranges were checked for categorical and numerical variables (using the coding frame included in the questionnaire; checks were also applied to within-range values exceeding the checking limits applied in the questionnaire), and consistency of data with filter conditions was checked.
*Logical checks and cleaning were applied to selected variables (see data documentation for details).
*Text answers to semi-closed questions were coded.
*Respondents with extremely short completion times and/or wrong answers to attention check questions were excluded from each wave dataset.
The response rate concept is not applicable to the quota sampling method used to constitute Wave 1 sample. A table in the Data Collection Time section above summarises the retention rates in each wave.
The margin of error for results based on the entire survey sample (with n = 2100+) ranges approximately between ±1 p.p. for low-frequency phenomena and ±2 p.p. for more frequent phenomena.
